Optical Limit/Home Switch

The HOME/LIMIT optical sensor switch is used in CNC machines like routers, mills and even lathes for identifing the working area of these machines.

The higher accuracy and repetability reccomend this type of sensor also for homing procedures.

The TTL logical output provide a direct compatibility with almost all CNC breakout boards.

Also, it can be used with the G540 from Geckodrive, by adding a single NPN transistor on the G540's input pin.

Example 1: Connecting to a G540 Motion Controller

The simplest configuration for the G540 motion controller and Mach3 as software controller, is to use a single one input for all home/limit sensors.

In this example we will use the POS 1 (see G540 manual here) from the G540's connector but you can use any input position available. The POS 1 is the corresponding input for PIN 10 (on the DB25 parallel connector) and this pin should also be set later in the Mach3's configuration.

Additional parts needed: 1 pcs NPN transistor.

Wiring:

• all sensors outputs (green wires) will be connected on the base pin of NPN transistor.
• emitter pin of transostor will be grounded
• collector pin (C) will be wired to POS 1 of the Gecko G540 controller
